Exotic Pets

In addition to providing veterinary care for dogs and cats, some of the veterinarians at Waipahu-Leeward Veterinary Clinic also care for “exotic” species such as birds, reptiles, rodents, and rabbits.  Sometimes it is easy to forget that these creatures need veterinary care too, and recommend an annual physical exam and full body check up for our unique friends. 

Birds are especially good at hiding their illnesses until the disease process has gotten fairly advanced, so it may be important to run periodic blood screenings on these pets to make sure that all of their
body systems appear to be functioning normally. 

Rabbits are other species that occasionally develop
problems with their digestive and reproductive systems,
thus annual exams are recommended in addition to
spaying and neutering these pets.  This will help them
lead longer happier lives.
